ABEOKUTA – Former Ogun state governor, Gbenga Daniel was Wednesday arraigned at the state High Court in Abeokuta over a 16-count charge of stealing, failure to declare his assets and fraudulent conversion of public funds by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Arriving in a Toyota Hiace coaster bus, marked Abuja BR737 BWR, flanked by stern-looking EFCC men and his wife, Daniel entered the court at 9:12 am and was docked at exactly 9:17am.
Daniel was accused of stealing contrary to section 390(4) of the criminal code law cap 29,laws of Ogun state 1978; conversion of public fund contrary to section(434) Ogun state criminal code, cap 29, laws of Ogun state 1978 as well as failure to declare his assets contrary to section.27(3b) of the EFCC establishment Act,2004.
Daniel pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Presiding Judge, Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje asked that Daniel be remanded in EFCC’s custody and adjourned the case till Friday.
