Adewale seeks more funding for LGs

By LAJA THOMAS
LAGOS—AHEAD of tomorrow’s local government polls in Lagos State, the Federal Government has been called upon to aid local governments in the country through increased funding.

The call was made by Mr. Ayodele Adewale, Chairman, Amuwo- Odofin Local Government, during an interaction with newsmen, yesterday.

Adewale, who is seeking re-election as chairman, said the biggest challenge facing councils nationwide was funding because local government as a tier of government was closest to the grassroots and people believed that whatever happen in their environment was the sole responsibility of the local government, forgetting that the federal and state governments have their responsibilities to the councils.

He said: “This is why it is important to increase revenue to the councils so that we can meet the infrastructural needs of our people.”
