57 Delta communities get relief materials

By Austin Ogwuda
Asaba—Fifty-seven communities that were ravaged by flood in Delta State have received relief materials.

State Commissioner for Bureau for Special Duties, Dr. Tony Nwaka, made the presentation at the warehouse of the State Emergency Relief Agency, SERA, where representa-tives of the 57 communities took delivery of the items.

The communities, which cut across four local government areas, Ughelli South, Patani, Bomadi and Burutu, suffered from severe flooding in 2010.

While making the presentation, Nwaka said: “This is something we must do and must continue to do. Government has pledged to continuously intervene in issues that affect the welfare of citizens of the state. When natural disa-sters such as this occur, government must sympa-thise with the people.”

The materials distributed include: bags of beans, rice, mattresses, buckets and utensils.
