Kwara deploys 2500 officers, 550 vigilantes

By DEMOLA  AKINYEMI,  Ilorin
Ahead of today’s independence anniversary, Kwara state police command has deplored 2, 500 of its men  and officers across  strategic areas in order to beef up security and  maintain law and order in the state .

The commissioner of police of the command, Peter Gana, who said  this yesterday at a press briefing on the security arrangements made for the anniversary in the state noted that  the police would be assisted by the Vigilante group in the state which would also deplore 550 of its men for the anniversary celebrations.

Already, fully armed anti riot mobile police officers, with active assistance of men of the vigilante groups were visibly noticed on the streets of Ilorin in the recent time in a renewed stop and search of all vehicles on the major roads.

This development, he said,  was sequel to  an operational order from the Force headquarters to ensure security during the anniversary.

Meanwhile, the command has arrested two of four suspected cult members who allegedly invaded Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin recently.

The police commissioner said the suspected cult members invaded the school on two motorcycles, firing sporadically into the air to cause pandemonium, adding that while they were escaping after this violent display, they shot one of the school’s security men who attempted to close the gate against them.

He said luck however ran out of the two  suspected cultists when the Police Mobile Force personnel on stop and search duty along old Jebba road who were alerted intercepted the suspects and arrested two of them while the remaining two ran away.
