Group wants Urhobo as new NDDC boss

By FESTUS AHON

UGHELLI-NATIONAL President of Urhobo National Youth Council, UNYC, Mr. Monday Oyeghe, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to appoint Urhobo indigene as chairman or managing director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, since they were not given a place in the Federal Executive Council.

While hailing the dissolution of the NDDC board, Oyeghe in a statement said the dissolution would instill discipline in the board and bring about rapid development of the Niger Delta region.

He said: “Urhobo contribute greatly to the economy of this nation and should be considered for a good appointment at the federal level. Urhobo as the fifth largest ethnic nationality next to ljaw nation deserves such slot and it will be total neglect on the part of the Federal Government, if Urhobo was denied of this opportunity.”

“President Jonathan needs technocrats to transform his administration and he should see the Urhobo nation as part of his constituency and appoint one from the area,” he said, pointing out that the Urhobos have not benefitted anything from the administration of President Jonathan and appealed to him to give them a sense of belonging in his government.
