Enyimba managed the wet conditions better – Coach Mekaba

Enyimba coach Abdul Mekaba told Cafonline.com that his team had managed the wet conditions better than visiting Cotonsport. Enyimba were also committed to winning the group emphatically and break down any hope Cotonsport had of taking anything from the match.

How would you assess the general outcome of the game?

We are happy with the result. Though we had planned a total white wash of the team, the rain saved them because the result would have been worse than they had. All the same, we thank God that we picked up all three maximum points. The result is fairly relative of the degree of preparation we put in this game.

It does appear that the pitch condition suited you more than Cotonsport?

The pitch was not bad for only one team; both teams suffered the negative impact of a pitch devastated by the heavy rains. All the same, that is football. You condition your mind to face such challenges. It was not bad pitch that brought us this far. Our mental ability and football sense did. We only managed the impact of the rain better than our opponents.

You rested five of your regular players suggesting that you did not bother so much about the end result. Is that correct?

Let me correct an impression. There is no such thing as regular players. When you register thirty players, you do so in the understanding that they are your best. I do know that two of our players Chiedozie and Ojobo were suspended due to yellow cards. Others who were on the bench were equally

Are you convinced that this is the Enyimba you need to go into the crucial stages of the semis and possibly finals?
What is important is mindset. This team is mentally alert enough to conquer Africa. With what happened today, they have proved that every match is equally important.

That is what is required to conquer Africa. We have inculcated in them sufficient winning mindset. We want them to maintain their unbeaten record. Today, we have increased that unbeaten run tally to eleven and we are still counting. We want to make history. We want to bring home this Cup on a 100% record unbeaten record.

You will face WAC in the semi final. How do you assess your team’s chances?

WAC is a good team. Any team that gets to this stage of a competition deserves maximum respect. We are not going to consider their name when we play them. I can say with every certainty that Enyimba is no less a formidable force in African football. I predict a tough match but we will make the most of the advantage of playing them first at home.

That arrangement usually serves as an advantage. We will do everything possible to check the WAC challenge. No rest for us until we conquer all the clubs
