Boko Haram: Sack security chiefs now – NBA

By INNOCENT ANABA

LAGOS – Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, weekend, called for the sack of security chiefs in the country for failing to check activities of the Boko Haram sect, which had led to the death of many Nigerians and destruction of property worth billions of naira.

The association also scored President Goodluck Jonathan low in the handling of security challenges facing the country, in its assessment of his first 100 days in office.

NBA President, Mr Joseph Daudu, SAN, at a briefing in Lagos, said “the security issue in the country today is very dicey. People are going about concerned that they do not know what will happen tomorrow. That is a prelude to breakdown of law and order.

He said: “The impression we get is that even high security chiefs have no inclination on how to address the security problem. I don’t think that where we have lapses in the security apparatus, that the people in charge of these security agencies should be allowed to stay on. Such people should be removed or changed. In the area of security, President Jonathan has not scored up to 20 per cent.”

On the President’s first 100 days, NBA said, “It is too short to assess the President’s performance just after the first 100 days.

“He had put in place the structures, but where he got it wrong was pursuing his six-year single tenure, when he has not addressed economic empowerment, power, security challenges, failed rail system, bad roads and many other things that would promote the well-being of the ordinary Nigerian and not promote political programme that does not affect the electorate.”’
