Tahajjud during Ramadan

In this month, it is very rewarding to observe tahjjud and end it before your sahur. One could get up in the early morning before the breaking of the dawn for prayers and in preparation for the fast.

This time is just between 3-4am(before sahur). Interestingly, not only can tahajjud prayers be offered at this time, it is indeed preferred time for these prayers.

If one is able to get up a few minutes before their regular time for eating, then they can avail themselves the opportunity to observe tahjjud and earn the great reward. This can be seen as one of the blessings of Ramadan! Many Muslims ignorantly use this part of the night even if they tried to be awake, they use it for watching movies while others use it playing games. The month is now is almost half gone, yet we have not recorded tangible ibadah for Al-mighty Allah in order to attract His blessings. What then could we say we have done, the month is unlike other months and another 12 calendar months would have to complete its circle before we have another opportunity.

Interestingly, Ramadan is a month in which in addition to the five daily prayers, offering of tahajjud is much more important than in ordinary days.

The act of embarking on night prayers during Ramadan is full of blessings and istjabah (acceptance of prayers) Muslims are therefore urged to give life to the nights of Ramadan with every variety of worship, drawing nearer to Allah. One of the hadiths of the Prophet states:

On the authority of Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace said: “Whoever stands in prayer during the nights of Ramadan with true faith and with self reckoning will have all his previous sins forgiven him.” That is a wonderful gift you may say.

Prayer of the day:

Allahuma ijhal li fihi nasiban, min rahmatika wasiati, waeednii, fihi li barainika Satiati, wakhuzbina siyati, ilaa maridhotika-l jemiat, bi mahabatika, yaa amala-l mushataqeen

O Allah, on this day, grant me a share from Your mercy which is wide, guide me towards Your shining proofs, lead me to Your all encompassing pleasure, by Your love, O the hope of the desirous.
