LAGOS — National Coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, Otunba Gani Adams, has dissociated himself from comments by Oodua Nationalist Coalition, on the suspension of President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami by the National Judicial Council, NJC.
Adams said he was understudying the situation and will soon come up with a position on the issue.
Public Relations Officer of the group, Mr. Hakeem Ologunro, in a statement, insisted that it had not taken decision on the suspension of Justice Salami, saying: “This is because we are still studying the situation and would express our opinion on it at the appropriate time.”
The statement reads: “The OPC, under the leadership of Otunba Adams, did not take part in the issuance of the statement concerning the judicial issue. Though we are not in any way disregarding the procedure of rule of law in the matter of Justice Salami and NJC, it is important to state that we have not taken any position for now on the matter as reflected in the statement of the coalition.”
The group, urged Nigerians to disregard the Oodua Nationalist Coalition, saying the coalition was not in “our self determination struggle.
“It is important for the members of the public to separate us from the coalition. The groups and the people that formed the coalition are not known in our self-determination struggle. So, it is unfortunate that some persons have taken an advantage of the reputation of our organisation to impersonate the leadership of our great organisation,” it added.
