Port Harcourt – Hundreds of motorists have embarked on panic buying of petrol in Port Harcourt and other parts of Rivers State following the planned three days warning strike called by organised labour over minimum wage.
Also, some private businesses have placed notices in their premises telling their staffers not to go on strike, failing which they may be thrown out of their employments.
Some traders in Mile 1 Market, (Rumuwoji Market), Creek Road and Town Markets have vowed to close shops tomorrow.
Mrs. Wariboko told vanguard that the strike was “proper for the sake of the workers and for us so that when they get more money we will sell well”. She said the market women association had arranged to join the strike tomorrow.
Also, civil servants in Kwara state have indicated their readiness to join the strike commencing tomorrow.
Though efforts to get the chairman of NLC, Alh. Farouk Akanbi proved abortive, but the immediate past chairman Comrade Emmanuel Ayeoribe confirmed the development.
According to him,’’In Kwara state we are set to join the strike. Already, let me tell you that every worker here has been sensitized, because this is a cause that affect everybody. All the workers want minimum wage so there is no going back’’.
