Osogbo— Osun State Government has reiterated its commitment towards the welfare and protection of its indigenes.
The State Deputy Governor, Chief Titilayo Laoye-Tomori spoke weekend while receiving indigenes of the state displaced in Borno State as a result of the Boko Haram sect crisis.
Mrs. Laoye-Tomori assured the more than 60 returnees of government’s plans to resettle them in their communities and advised them to provide needed information on any of their people that might still be trapped in any part of the troubled zones.
She said: “Your safe return to us is an indication of the preparedness of the Rauf Aregbesola’s government to be responsible and responsive.
“You must be aware that it was this state that first responded to the call by its indigenes to rescue them from Bauchi State when some youth corps members were attacked. Our state was also the first to evacuate her citizens from the war-torn Cote D’Ivoire and brought them back home to their people. To the Aregbesola administration, governance has no meaning if it is not people-centred.”
We therefore appeal to you to be of good behaviours with the assurances that the government will not let you down under any condition.”
Expressing gratitude for their safe return, spokesman of the returnees, Mr. Sabitu Yussuf, thanked the government, noting that the prompt response by the government to their save-our-soul message from Borno was impressive.
It will be recalled that the state government deployed four busses for the evacuation of the trapped indigenes.
Among the returnees were six children.
