As the Flying Eagles play their first game today against Guatemala at the FIFA U-20 World Cup which kicked off in Colombia Friday, Board member of Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan, Felix Owolabi says he expects that the team’s coach, John Obuh would have perfected the tactical and technical strategies he expects to adopt against his opponents in the group stage of the tournament.
The Ex-Green Eagles star and member of Nigeria’s first Nations Cup winning squad believes the team have prepared enough for the competition, stressing that the warm-up matches they played would have helped in building the team.
“The challenge is when we enter a competition of this nature we always fall to the preying hands of Latin America teams who display high techniques on and off the pitch, so I expect him to do more work on the tactical and technical discipline of the boys.
“They have prepared very hard for the tournament so I believe the series of friendly matches have helped him build a solid team for Nigerians. The boys should be able to brace up for every game as if it is their last, forgetting the losses they suffered during preparation.
“He (Obuh) must have been able to know the best players in the forward line, the midfield and the defence through the pre-tournament games. He should have been able to know the level of adjustment the boys can make coupled with the weather conditions they played in during their preparation. I am sure the weather will not pose as a problem for them,” Owalabi said.
