Corona Secondary Schools (CSS) Senior Boys thrashed CSS Alumni five goals to three in a football match between the duo teams held at the school’s football field Ikoyi on Saturday.
The football fiesta which kicked off at 12:30pm brought together Corona Alumni across the country with the host students and teachers dressed in sport wears.
The match at the opening of the first half witnessed a superlative displayed of the CSS Senior Boys as Balogun Folarin dribbled two defenders of the Alumni to score opening goal at three minutes of the first half.
Again, at the tenth minutes of the match, the Senior Boys saw the back of the net through a penalty shootout taking by Balogun Folarin when one of the Alumni players committed a foul at box eighteen.
However, the tenth minutes goal was cancelled by Tuoyo Amuka an Alumni striker at the nineteenth minutes of the match when a penalty was awarded to them. This first goal elicited joy for the Alumni team.
The equalizer goal came at the fifty-five minutes of the second half through a brilliant shot from Frank Okonkwo.
No sooner the Alumni scored the equalizer goal than they began to faint in physical strength which the energetic youths capitalized on and leveled in their third goal through a header from Makuo Uduji at the sixty-one minutes of the second half.
Incidentally, five minutes latter, the fourth goal came through Makuo Uduji when he converted a cross from a team mate to a goal.
It was like the standing ovation by supporters for the Senior Boys performance brought in the fifth goals for the CSS Boys at seventy-eight minutes when Ikenna Elegbua scored the closing goal that ended the match 5-2 in favour of CSS Boys.
In attendance were Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, Director, Corona Secondary Schools, Agbara, Mrs Olufunto Igun, Executive Director, Corona School Trust Council and Mr Idiaku Corona School PTA Chairman of Victoria Island.
