Yenagoa – The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and the Labour Party in Bayelsa State, weekend, scored low, the performance of the dissolved third House of Assembly led by Speaker, Mr Nestor Binabo.
Though the Speaker was returned by the members, the opposition parties said the passage by the dissolved House of 37 executive bills and six bills that emanated from the members was a confirmation that it was only a rubber stamp to the executive arm.
But a former member and Chairman House Committee on Information, Communication and Strategy, Chief Robert Enogha argued that those involved in the poor ratings of the last House were ignorant of the workings involved in the passage of bills and were wrong to give a rating on it.
While reviewing the performance of the dissolved House, the national youth leader of the ACN and the immediate past state chairman of the party, Mr. Ebikibina Miriki, said “the report card presented by the dissolved state Assembly on its passage of 37 executive bills, six private bills by members and 18 pending, showed incompetence and low knowledge of legislative duties.”
According to him, “the Bayelsa Assembly has not only performed low and woefully, members have exhibited grave incompetence and poor knowledge of legislative business as it concerns enacting laws that would enhance the development of the state and welfare of the people.
