Nollywood wins As Tony One Week grabs Assembly ticket

Popular musician and Nollywood actor Tony Muonagor a.k.a Tony one Week has made history as the first entertainer to win an elective position in Nigeria.

On the 26th of April 2011, the popular musician cruised to victory in the House of Assembly’s election in Anambra State.

Tony was one of the three notable Nollywood practitioners who contested for the House of Assembly election. While the rest two, Alex Eyengho and Augustus Metusela lost to their opponents, Tony One Week defeated his, to make history as the first film maker in Nigeria to grab a House of Assembly ticket.

Meanwhile, one of the contestants, Mr Alex Eyengho who vied for the Warri-South West Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly election on the platform of the ACN may head to the election petitions tribunal to challenge the result, which gave victory to the PDP candidate, at the just concluded House of Assembly poll in Delta State. “I have 21 days as provided for in the Electoral Act to take a firm decision, Eyengho said, adding that whatever decision I take at the end of the day would be based on overall interest of my constituency and Delta State.” Also, speaking after his victory, the elated Tony declared, “I can’t wait to resume work and make some great changes, trust us, we reminded him of all the promises he made to his people during campaign.”

“I’m not only ready to keep my promises, but I’m going to do more.”

Tony one Week will be representing the Idemili North Constituency, in the Anambra State House of Assembly. He contested on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and was declared the winner in the election which took place on Tuesday, April 28, 2011. Tony debuted as a singer in 1998 and directed his first movie titled ‘Holygans’ in 1999.
