 By WOLE MOSADOMI

Minna -The Niger State Election Petitions Tribunal has so far received five petitions in respect of the just-concluded National Assembly polls.

Those challenging the outcome of the elections at the Tribunal include Senator Nuhu  Aliyu (PDP) who is challenging the election of Mr. Musa Ibrahim, CPC, for the Niger North Senatorial District.
Also heading for the tribunal is the defeated PDP House of Representatives candidate for Mariga/Mashegu/Kontagora/Wushishi constituency, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Duba. Duba is challenging the victory of the CPC candidate, Alhaji Garba Idris Abdullahi.

Daughter of former Minister of FCT, Hajiya Zainab Gado Nasko of (PDP) who lost to Alhaji Atiku  Shamaki is challenging the results of the election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Also at the tribunal is Alhaji Salihu Adamu Shadafu of ANPP, (Bosso/Paikoro Federal Constituency) who is challenging the victory of Captain James Baitachi (rtd) of PDP.

Shadatu is alleging that the election was characterized with irregularities which paved way for his PDP counterpart to win.

Secretary of the state Election Petitions Tribunal, Miss Elsie Akpabio told reporters in Minna that two Election Tribunals had been constituted for the state, adding that one will be considering the petitions on the governorship and House of Assembly elections while the other will treat disputes arising from the National Assembly, elections.

She said the creation of the two Election Tribunals, was aimed at ensuring quick dispensation of all cases filed in the state.

Miss Akpabio however explained that the fact that only few cases had been brought before the tribunals does not foreclose more petitions as there were likely to be more aggrieved politicians.

She said that the Tribunal will commence sitting as soon as members arrive the state capital, Minna.
