Argentina Vs Eagles: Chukwu, Odegbami express confidence on Eagles

Abuja – Two former internationals, Christian Chukwu and Olusegun Odegbami, on Thursday in Abuja expressed confidence that Nigeria’s Super Eagles would overcome Argentina in their June 1 international friendly.

The duo said at the unveiling of “The Conquest’’ that the Eagles had all the requirements to win the game.

The match tagged “Guinness the Match’’ is scheduled for the Abuja National Stadium.

“Nigeria and Argentina have met at the senior level three times before now, and this will be their fourth meeting. But I know our players have all it takes to win this encounter.

“I also believe that when our players see the trophy at stake, they will be more motivated to win. They will not allow the trophy to leave Nigeria. This is the time to turn things round,’’ Chukwu said.

The former captain of the then Green Eagles said the match was also going to be an opportunity for the Super Eagles to prepare for their June 5 encounter with Ethiopia, in Addis Ababa.

“It’s a match we (Nigeria) can also use to prepare for our 2012 African Nations Cup qualifier and continue with our process of re-building the team. I know we can and we will win the match,’’ he said.

Odegbami who captained the Green Eagles after Chukwu’s exit from the team, said he was equally very sure the Super Eagles would win the match.

“Whoever wins the beautiful trophy at stake would  have really deserved it. But I think the match will not end in a draw.

“It will be a win for the Eagles because I am sure they will go away from the stadium with the trophy as they have the quality to win it,’’ he said.

Both ex-internationals, while lauding Guinness Nigeria Plc for organising the match, however, described it as a great game every good footballer would love to be part of.

“While I thank Guinness for putting this game together, I must say this is a great game that tops the bill on any day,’’ Chukwu Said.

Odegbami who expressed regrets at not being part of those playing, also praised Guinness for its efforts.

“Chukwu and I have a perfect opportunity in being part of the trophy presentation, but unfortunately we will not be part of the match. I miss not playing a game like this.

“But we must thank Guinness for bringing together two of the world’s greatest teams together in a spectacular match,’’ he said.(NAN)
