Joel Obi shuns Flying Eagles

Eagles’ rising star, Joel Obi refused to commit himself to playing for the national under-20 team the Flying Eagles, at the African Youth Championship beginning April 17 in South Africa.

The team’s coach John Obuh had requested that the player join his squad for the AYC, but the Inter Milan youngster seemed more concerned about holding down a regular appearance for the defending champions European Champions League.

Obuh worried by the lack of depth in his midfield wanted Obi’s creative spark, but that is not likely to happen.

“I have to Joel but he has not been forthcoming with a decision. He he told me he wants to establish himself at his Italian club Inter Milan,” Obuh lamented.

He was however, relieved that attacking midfieder, Ahmed Musa will join the Flying Eagles.
“Musa will not join us here in Nigeria. He will join us in South Africa since his club cannot release him later than that time,” Obuh said.

The Flying Eagles are the same Group B with FIFA Under-20 world cup champions, Ghana, Cameroon and Gambia.
