Police arrest Ebonyi guber candidate’s aides

BY PETER OKUTU

ABAKALIKI -THE  Police, on the orders of Ebonyi State government, yesterday arrested some political aides to the governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in the state, Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu, over alleged  dangerous overtaking of Governor Elechi’s convoy at Emene, near Enugu.

The aides, who were intercepted around airport junction, were taken to the Police Area Command, Enugu, on  the order of the Police Commissioner, Ebonyi State Command, Mr. Emmanuel Ayeni, who was briefed of the incident at the instance of Governor Elechi.

In a press statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onyekachi Eni, described the action of the aides to the APGA governorship candidate as condemnable and disrespectful, adding that the security details in Governor Elechi’s convoy were only restrained by the governor from taking the necessary action of opening fire on the motorcade of APGA governorship candidate.

He said: “Ogbuewu and his convoy dangerously swerved left and right in the attempt  to overtake the governor’s convoy at all costs, a development that would have involved the governor in a serious accident, in addition to the danger the situation put  other road users.”
