LAWMA gets FG award

Lagos Waste Manage ment Authority, LAWMA, has received an award from the Federal Government in recognition of various contributions in resource management, particularly in the area of waste recycling, and outstanding achievement in the creation of wealth from waste productions.

The award which was presented to LAWMA boss was organised by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, RMRDC, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.

While receiving the award, LAWMA Managing Director, Mr. Ola Oresanya, revealed that Lagos was the highest producer of compost in Africa with its plant at Odogunyan, Ikorodu converting over 800 metric tones of municipal solid waste into more than 250 bags of compost daily.

According to the organisers, the event which was the 10th in the series of awards to individuals and company recipients was initiated in 1992 to identify and encourage activities geared towards developing the nation’s vast raw materials.
