Succession problem mars Edo Acn primaries

By SIMON EBEGBULEM
FORMER Director General of the Centre for Democratic Studies, CDS, Prof. Omo Omoruyi, weekend, described the just concluded House of Assembly and National Assembly primaries of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Edo State as a fraud, explaining that the exercise was marred due to the alleged ambition of the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Pius Odubu, to take over power from Governor Adams Oshiomhole at the end of his tenure.

He alleged that “there is a secret cult going on in Orhionmwon (Deputy Governor’s LGA) and if you are not in it you, cannot succeed and that was what happened to my nephew, Dr Festus Imuetinya, my elder sister’s son whose name disappeared from the ballot paper.”

Meanwhile, protests have continued to trail the ACN primaries in the state, as several aspirants, including the senatorial aspirant in Edo South, Mr Mathew Urhohide, Crosby Eribo (House of Reps Egor/Ikpoba Okhai), Dr Festus Imuetinya, faulted the way and manner results of the primaries where released, saying that the conduct of the primaries, was not a true reflection of the one man one vote campaign of the Governor.

Urhohide who lost to Senator Ehigie Uzamere, briefed newsmen in Benin City. He urged party supporters to remain calm as he had petitioned the leadership of the party, adding  that “ it will not be nice for any body to take laws into his hand. Let us watch and see how the party will treat the petition and that will determine our next line of action.”
