A 27- year-old man was Wednesday night killed, after he was flung down from the minaret of Ijesha-Tedo central mosque, following a failed attempt to rescue a mother of three that was trapped there.

The trapped woman said to have strayed all the way from Ikotun area of Lagos, was discovered to be a lunatic. How she found her way right to the top of the minaret unnoticed, still remains a mystery to be unraveled by the Police.

The deceased identified simply as Ikechukwu, was said to be on his way home at about 11pm, in the company of his friend. However, on arriving at the mosque, they were attracted by a crowd of inquisitive on-lookers who were watching  how the trapped woman would find her way down.

Eye witness said the late Ikechukwu quickly pulled off his shirts following a bet of N1000 on whoever was able to get the woman down.

Effort by his unidentified friend to dissuade Ikechukwu from taking the risk, reportedly fell on deaf ears as he also pulled his shoes and started climbing on a make-shift ladder to the top of the minaret.

But the unexpected occurred, as on reaching the top of the minaret, the trapped woman reportedly shook the make-shift ladder, causing Ikechukwu to lose his grips and landed on the ground with his head. He reportedly died on the spot.

When vanguard arrived the scene Thursday, the woman was still sighted on the minaret, with a mammoth crowd still watching .
The crowd which greeted the spectacular scene, prevented vehicular access along the route, causing policemen attached to Ijsha-Tedo division to be diverting vehicles from both ends of the road.

The lunatic, was however rescued at about 2pm Thursday by a combined team of fire fighters and policemen.
