Jonathan/Sambo Campaign coordinators inaugurated in Owerri

By Chidi Nkwopara
OWERRI — The Imo State chapter of the Jonathan/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation last weekend inched a step forward towards ensuring victory for President Goodluck Jonathan in the PDP primaries when it inaugurated the coordinators of the 27 local government areas.

State Coordinator of the campaign organisation, Chief Chris Okewulonu, who performed the ceremony, charged them to begin a door-to-door campaign to deliver the president in the upcoming PDP presidential primaries.

He said because the president had pledged to Nigerians that every vote must count, there would be no short cut to victory except through hard work and dedication.

Chief Okewulonu, who is a Commissioner in the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission, also reminded the coordinators that no incumbent had ever lost a primary election, the reason they must put extra efforts to deliver Dr. Jonathan.

He told them that the organisation was prepared to assist them in every way possible.

“The president doesn’t want to muscle his way to win the primaries. So the onus is on you to deliver him in your various local governments”, Chief Okewulonu, the immediate past Secretary to Imo State Government, told them.

He expressed optimism that with dedication to duty and sincerity of purpose by the 27 local government coordinators, President Jonathan will win all the Imo PDP votes at the primaries.

Also speaking, a member of the presidential campaign organization and political Adviser to Imo State governor, Chief Rex Anunobi, urged the coordinators to work in harmony with Chief Okewulonu to deliver the president.

Describing Chief Okewulonu as a tested politician who had served as a two-time commissioner and secretary to the government, Anunobi said his choice for the job was appropriate.

He warned the local government coordinators against sabotaging the efforts of the campaign, noting that those who work hard would always be rewarded by the system.
