MINISTER of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, has  described the death of elder statesman and frontline nationalist, Pa. Anthony Enahoro, as a national loss, especially at this time of political transition when the nation would have benefitted immensely from his wealth of experience.

Chief Wogu who, in a  statement signed by Mr. Olowookere Samuel, Assistant Director (Press), said: “Pa Anthony Enahoro was a democratic icon who believed and fought for the unity and peace of Nigeria and died in the struggle for a true democratic Nigeria”.

The Labour Minister extolled the virtues of Pa. Enahoro and described him as a “labour friendly minister whose contribution to the promotion of industrial harmony in the labour sector during his tenure as Federal Minister of Information, Labour and Cultural Affairs between  1967-1975, is unparalled. The legacy he left in the Ministry of Labour is a road map for all other Ministers after him in the Ministry to emulate.”

The Senate has urged the Federal Government to name a national monument in honour of late Pa Anthony Enahoro in memory of his contributions to development and growth of Nigeria.

The Senate’s decision was sequel to the consideration of a motion sponsored by Senators Yisa Braimoh and Odion Ugbesia.

Senator Ugbesia, while moving the motion, noted that Pa Enahoro, an advocate of true federalism and a united Nigeria, served the nation for over six decades with commitment and selflessness.

Contributing to the motion, senators eulogised the late Pa Enahoro, stressing that his love for Nigeria was worthy of emulation.

Senator Bode Olajumoke, PDP Ondo, poured encomium on Pa Enahoro, saying his zeal for democracy took him through great pains, but yet he remained committed to the end.

He said: “We saw in him a role model, he was a socialist and a great democrat. Indeed I believe he is the last of the titans that shrouded the political climate and we shall miss him.”
