Nine Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirants in Bayelsa State, have rejected the special adhoc delegates’ election held in the state Tuesday, over alleged malpractices and irregularities that characterised the exercise.

The governorship aspirants, who declared that democracy was being threatened in the state, insisted that the results were compiled in the private homes of some top government officials in the state.

In a statement jointly  by Chief Francis Doukpola, Fred Agbedi, Beimo Rufus-Spiff, David Obuma, Christopher Enai, Deinyabofa Dimaro, Mr  Peremobowei Ebebi, George Ombe and Hinks Dumbo, the aspirants alleged that shortly after the election materials were handed over to the respective returning officers, they were immediately hijacked as they stepped out of the party secretariat.

According to the aggrieved aspirants, “this dastardly act was perpetuated brazenly by high ranking government officials, thus frustrating the elections. We, therefore, state categorically that there was no adhoc delegate election in the entire Bayelsa State.”

They allegeded that indication of the planned fraudulent act was reported at the briefing session by the election panel, when the party’s chairman of Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area raised an alarm that a kangaroo election was already going on in his council headquarters, without the legitimate officials and materials.

The aggrieved aspirants described the purported ward delegates election as complete fraud and without legitimacy.
