Disgraced CAF and FIFA Executive Committee member, Dr. Amos Adamu said even before the decision of the Ethics Committee was made public, that he would appeal the decision because he was not satisfied with their guilty verdict passed on him.
He has continued to maintain that he was innocent and will surely get justice from the Appeals Committee. FIFA president, Sepp Blatter even helped him further, asking him to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) and the Swiss court if he still feels unhappy with the verdict of the Appeals Committee.
One however expected Dr Adamu to give up the fight and return home quietly instead of stirring more bile within FIFA and among his haters in Nigeria. This is because Blatter said categorically that if CAS confirms the decision of the Ethics Committee, the Swiss court would hardly tow a different line.
Again during the week, it was gathered that Dr Adamu, who once boasted that he was FIFA and anything he says concerning Nigeria stands, appealed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not to haunt him because he has appealed the guilty verdict passed on him by FIFA and therefore cannot answer questions from it.
What this latest stand shows is that the former czar of Nigeria’s football is only buying time with the appeal he has lodged and is afraid to get into the EFCC nest. Otherwise why would he remain abroad after his initial suspension in October and later three years ban last month from the same body he often used to harass the people and government of Nigeria.
His self exile will solve no problem for him. The earlier he returns and clears his name, the better for him because many Nigerians believe he was the clog in the wheel of progress for Nigeria’s sports and football in particular.
