No fewer than 16 passengers narrowly escaped death yesterday at about 6.pm when the break of a bus with registration number XN 115 KTU failed along LASU-Isheri Road and ran into a canal. The incident happened at Iba bus stop.
The police, however, denied knowledge of the accident.
Victims were rescued by sympathizer who rushed them to an undisclosed hospital in the area, while their properties littered the spot.
According to an eyewitness, the Volks Wagen bus with the inscription ‘Officer in charge’ had left Iyana_Iba bus stop with 16 passengers including the driver and the conductor. On getting to the area, his break failed and ran into the canal.
The eye witness added that majority of the victims were returning from relaxation parks across the state where they had gone to enjoy Christmas celebration.
Another eyewitness, who identified himself as Rasheed, said, “The accident occurred at 6.01 pm when I was going to drop my friend at his residence. We were thinking that armed robbers were in operation but on getting to the scene, we discovered that it was an accident.”
The public relations officer of the police in Lagos, Superintendent Frank Mba, said he did not have any information about the accident.
