Why we excel in Nigeria, Aviat network

Daring the obvious high cost of doing business in Nigeria, integrated 4G solution company, Aviat networks has said that it would continue to operate comfortably in the country for a long time to come because it has long decoded the formula of staying afloat in the Nigerian market.

Speaking exclusively to Hi-Tech last week after a media round table with the company management team in Lagos last week the company’s head and Director of sales, Mr Olawale Osunmosu revealed that to cut the over head costs like power and security, the company has always employed a Nigerian at the top management who would interface between the company and its Nigerian public.

According to him, “the cost of doing business in Nigeria is high. There are the issues of power and security. so, if you want to operate your business in Nigeria you have to add additional resources, think of the area boys and all that which may not be part of what you are deploying. So, from our experience in Nigeria, what we do is that, we normally have a son of the soil wherever we do business who will take us to the leaders of the area and this has helped a lot because the natives now take our company as their own” he added

He recounted that  “even before the GSM operations started in Nigeria, we had already started investing in this country with our solutions to most of the existing CDMA operators then. So it’s a market we’ve always believed in. We have invested heavily in the Nigerian market and obviously our success has been guaranteed.

The company which recently rebranded from Harris Stratex to become Aviat networks have introduced some new solutions and products to complement its popular Site Controller solution that helps control power and energy management for telecom sites as well as its efforts in the WIMAX space when it acquired Telsima.
Osumosu noted that why the company was upgrading its platform was in order not to be known as just transmission service provider alone, but a total solution provider. “With our new brand and platform upgrade we now deserve to seen in a number of competencies than we were not previously known for.

“Now instead of having a company previously known for transmission and microwave solutions, you now have an integrated telecom solutions management company with various areas of competence. The new identity will now enable us to enter markets where we were not that well known before, and the previous identity will no longer be a stumbling block for us.

So in areas like management services and WIMAX, Aviat hopes to capitalize on its new identity to explore and take control of such areas as we have done in other places. As I will always maintain, Nigeria is a very strategic market for us right now. It is actually the fastest growing telecommunications market in the world today, and it has been for a number of years now”.
