FA chairmen in the country will storm Abuja today hoping to have audience with the Presidency.
If they succeed, they want to tell government that, in their own opinion, the sports ministry has contributed a lot to the problems of Nigerian football and sports in general.
Their protest match is a reaction to last week’s meeting states commissioners of sports held with the ministry where they were directed to initiate another extraordinary congress of the FA to press for the postponement of the August 21 elections into the Nigeria Football Federation. The ministry was also said to have directed the commissioners to exercise some control over the state Football Associations and ensure they held elections.
“We want the Presidency to know that the ministry is also a major problem. They create problems and when we fail they never share in the blame. They, with the PTF, supervised the signing of a new coach few months to the World Cup and also got N350m for World Cup which they have not accounted for,â€one FA chairman said and pleaded not to be quoted as the ministry can work against him.
“FIFA is watching,â€he continued, adding “they have already warned Nigeria. Right now, we risk a ban if government succeeds in stopping the election. That’s why we are going to Abuja but in the main, we want the Presidency to know that the ministry is part of the problem and failure of the current FA,†the FA chairman from the South said.
