Ohuruogu doubts Commonwealth Games appearance

Christine Ohuruogu is yet to decide whether she will defend her Commonwealth Games 400m title.Ohuruogu will be absent from this month’s European Athletics Championships in Barcelona with the quad injury that forced her out of the recent UK Championships.

She had hoped to return for the IAAF Diamond League meeting in London in the middle of August but now admits that might be too optimistic.

But even if she’s fit to compete in Delhi in October, she fears extending her season so late might be detrimental to getting back on track for next year’s World Championships in Daegu.

“It’s horrible being injured and I hate missing races but I’ve come to terms with it now,” she said.
“The Commonwealth Games being later in the year gives me an option but the important thing for me is being fit and totally ready for the World Championships in 2011.“That’s only one year away from the Olympics and it’s all about that for me.

“It’s at the Worlds that I will be able to measure myself against the opponents that will be looking to get my title in 2012.

“In many ways I think I’m lucky to be injured this year, it’s how I’m trying to console myself.
“If it happened next year, which is such an important build-up year for the Olympics, I’d go away and hide and you’d never see me again!”
