BENIN CITY — THE Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Philip Shaibu and the member representing Ikpoba Okhai constituency in the House, Mr. Jude Ise-Idehen, are being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged forgery of their tax clearance certificates.
But the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Bright Omokhodion and the Action Congress, AC, in the state, through its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Retti Uzzi, described the invitation extended to the duo by the EFCC as politically motivated, saying that they would be vindicated after the investigations.
It was learnt that the EFCC invited the duo to Abuja last Friday, following a petition that they forged their tax clearance certificates, which they used in contesting elections.
It was also learnt that efforts are being made to grant them bail.
But the Speaker, Omokhodion who spoke to Vanguard on telephone, said “I just received a letter from the EFCC inviting the two of them.
I know that people who have lost politically in the state are at work again but they will fail. I just want to tell you that they are fine, there is no problem at all.â€
On his part, Uzzi said “the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is still struggling by all means to gain relevance and what they are doing now is to use some body in the Presidency to allege all sorts of falsehood against the members of the House. But we know that they will be vindicated very soon.â€
