The Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) has scheduled September 16 as the date for its Annual General Meeting, where elections into the various Executive Committee positions would be held.
Disclosing this after a meeting of the Executive Board yesterday at the National Stadium, the Public Relations Officer of the NOC, Tony Nezianya, told newsmen that Lagos would be the venue of the much anticipated elections, which have suffered several setbacks, following intense power tussle between the incumbent president, Habu Gumel and former Sports Minister, Sani Ndanusa.
Nezianya, while speaking after the meeting, which lasted for well over four hours, said that Gumel and Ndanusa were free to contest for election.
“It was a fruitful deliberation by all the members and at the end of the meeting, the Executive Board agreed that the next Annual General Meeting of the NOC comes up on September 16 in Lagos and the only agenda for the day is the conduct of elections into different positions in the Executive Committeeâ€, said Nezianya.
He added that “Gumel, Ndanusa and other candidates are qualified to seek positions in the next Executive Committee of the NOCâ€.
