2011: Nzeribe canvasses 8-yr tenure for Jonathan

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA— SENATOR Francis Arthur Nzeribe said yesterday that as the nation prepares for the 2011 Presidential election, it has become imperative for the Niger Delta Region of the South South geo-political zone of the country to produce the president through the incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan for a period of eight years.

The former Senator who represented Orlu Senatorial District of Imo State noted that what was good for Chief Olusegun Obasanjo/South West in 1999, should equally be good for Jonathan/South-South in 2011.

According to him, it is not just enough to grant the people of the region amnesty if the presidency is not in the bag, adding, “I call for 8-years compensation in return for 40-years of extortion. In short, after 40 years of marginalization and suffering, Nigerians must allow the Niger Delta region to produce the President for eight years through Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. This is the only way genuine peace, progress and stability will be achieved in our country.”

Addressing newsmen yesterday, Nzeribe who called on Nigerians to steer away from debating on zoning as a subject matter, warned that if it continued, it would not only be counter productive, but it will generate unnecessary political bad-blood, adding, “I observed that consciously or unconsciously all the groups in the zoning’ debate are conceding the Presidency to President Goodluck Jonathan.
