Nigeria Football Association, NFA, has expressed interest in extending the contract of Swede coach, Lars Lagerback after the expiration of his contract in July.

The Swede  had signed  a five month contract with Nigeria but came to the end of the road after the Eagles were kicked out of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa without winning a match, managing only a draw against South Korea.

But it appears that the NFA have fallen in love with the Swede and are doing everything possible to retain him when his contract expires in July. Chairman of the Technical Committee of the NFA, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi confirmed to Sports Vanguard in Johannesburg that they would love to extend his contract but noted that he has to show interest first.

“It takes two to tango. We are happy with his performance and will love to extend his contract. But he has to show interest. If he shows interest, we will extend his contract”.

Ogunjobi also stated that he would recommend to the executive committee of the NFA before discussing it with the Swede.

“I will recommend to the Executive Committee when I get back to Nigeria. But there is nothing that we can now until the expiration of his contract in July”, Ogunjobi insisted.

Lagerback was none committal when asked. “My contract is still on and I have to go back and put things into the perspective. But I must say that I have loved working with those in the FA and the players have been wonderful showing maturity, discipline and professionals”.
