Ex-militant leaders in bloody clash

By Samuel Oyadongha
Yenagoa— A bloody clash between rival former militant leaders in Ogbia area of Bayelsa State, was weekend averted following the prompt intervention of some vigilant community youths.

The near tragic incident occured,  weekend when Ogbia Brotherhood, a socio-cultural group in Ogbia Clan,  called for a meeting to address the developmental needs of the people and the election of its youth body executive.

The community meeting, it was learnt, had in attendance, Chairman of the Council, Mr. Sammy Boy and King of Anyama Clan, His Royal Highness, Omie Theophilous.

Narrating the incident in Yenagoa, Munalayefa,  who is still receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, said “mid-way into the meeting, a certain person stood up to observe the King, who was addressing the audience, but he was called to order and asked not to do such but he insisted, and that brought confusion which led to disorderliness.

“At this moment,  Bomo Oborie and his boys went straight to where the king was seated and made attempt to abduct him but we stopped him and pleaded with them not to try such thing in our community, as that will bring bad name to us.

But instead they went outside and regrouped themselves with the intention to cause mayhem in the community,” he said.

The former militant leader who was left with a broken leg by his assailants, who allegedly attacked him with dangerous weapons, said  but for the intervention of the community youths and some of his boys, who rescued him, it would have been a different story.

Gibson threatened that if nothing was done to bring his attackers to book, he would have no option than to go for revenge when he is fully recovered.

Adding that Bomo Oborie and his boys still have more weapons in their possession than they claimed to have surrendered.

In a petition to the Chairman, Ex_militant’s Peace Keeping Forum, Yenagoa by the victim’s counsel, they wondered why Bomo Oborie, who claimed to have surrendered his arms and ammunition during the amnesty should still possess large quantity of arms and ammunition at Epebu Town,  which he and his gang use to engage in kidnapping, sea piracy and other criminal activities in the creeks of Anyama in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.

They posited that unless the arms and ammunitions l in the possession of Bomo Oborie and his gang are recovered from them and made to face the music for their conduct, there would be a resurgence of such activities in Ogbia Kingdom,  which would undermine the peace prevailing in the area, wondering why they boys should engage themselves in kidnap of a traditional ruler,  when the Federal Government is making efforts at rehabilitating them.
