Indications have emerged that Prof. Saliba Mukoro would contest the Delta  gubernatorial elections on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.  Mukoro, a Professor of Criminal Justice and Head of Department at the Mississippi Valley State University, USA, is an Urhobo.

A statement by his consultant on Research and Politics, Mr. Silvester Akhidime, said, Mukoro is well favoured by the youths and elders in the state.

“Prof. Mukoro is committed to the long marginalised people in Delta State. Even when he was in the USA, he had given several lectures and talks on the Niger Delta problem and the way forward.”

He added that Mukoro is considering a new beginning for the troubled Niger Delta region.

It willd be recalled that Prof Mukoro in one of his lectures on Nigeria’s democracy, noted that for lasting peace to emerge in the Niger Delta region, the government and people of the region should embrace dialogue and genuine practical efforts aimed at development, just as he urged the youths to desist from violent acts, while government should act swiftly to grant a general amnesty to all militants and absorb them in phases.
