Tompolo tasks Jonathan on fairness

By Emma Amaize
WARRI—EX-MILITANT leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, last weekend urged President Goodluck Jonathan to lead the country with all fairness and not concentrate development in the Niger Delta alone.

Tompolo, who spoke  at Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State during the Amaseikumor Festival, advised the President not to give special preference to the Niger Delta area so as not to be seen as a regional president.

He said:  “I want Nigerians to take the whole country as one and the same people not only the people of Niger Delta. President Jonathan should give what belongs to the people of Niger Delta to them; give what belongs to other parts to them.

“Not that because Jonathan is president today, he should then bring everything to the people of Niger Delta or people of Ijaw land. I want him to take everybody as equals;  that is my comment.

“I want to say that the death of President Yar’Adua is the will of God. Nobody prays for the death of anyone but you know it is by the grace of God.  Late President Yar’Adua was a very good friend and a brother and was committed to the amnesty programme.

“In the amnesty programme, we need to pray to God to guide us through because with the power of God, we will get to where we are going. It is a process and a contribution of every one of us to make it work so that every other person will enjoy it.”

Tompolo said he had been praying for the country and the Niger Delta, in particular, so that someday, the people of the region would enjoy the fruit of their resources, and assured that the president would carry all Nigerians along in his administration.
