THERE is fresh tension in Gbaramatu Kingdom of Delta state, as the paramount ruler of the Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Pere Godwin Bebenimibo and the chairman of the sub-committee on security, in the Delta Water Ways committee, High Chief Denis Otuaro, raised an alarm over threat to their lives and alleged plans to disrupt the prevailing peace in the Kingdom by some militants who refused to accept the amnesty programme of the Federal Government in the community
They alleged that a former commander in the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), (names withheld) his brothers, have been threatening them, just as they vowed to cause mayhem in the community unless they took over the Kingship of the community.
They therefore called on the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta and the Delta state government to come to their and to avoid fresh crisis in the area.
However, Chief Otuaro who also doubles as the spokesman of the King, expressed fears over the prevailing tensed situation in the Kingdom, and urged security agents in the state to check the activities of these persons.
According to him, “These people are after our life because we have told them to embrace the amnesty programme of the Federal Government.
They started the problem by saying that they want to dethrone the King who was duly elected by the people and recognized by the Delta state government. We are calling on all law enforcement agencies to come to our rescue so as to avoid bloodshed in Gbaramatu Kingdom â€.
