Imoke condemns Channels cameraman’s murder

CALABAR—The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, has condemned the killing of Mr. Jerry Usanga, the Channels Television cameraman attached to Government House Press Corps, Calabar.
Usanga was reportedly murdered by unknown persons on Tuesday, in Calabar.

In a release signed by the Chief Press Secretary and Special Assistant, Media, Mr. Patrick Ugbe, and made available to newsmen, Imoke said he received the news with rude shock and deep sorrow.
He wondered why an argument would degenerate to a point where human life would be wasted.

Governor Imoke described the murder as brutal, senseless and unnecessary waste of life and called the security agencies in the state to ensure a thorough investigation of the incident so that the culprits would be brought to book.

“Our condolences go out to the family of Mr. Jerry Usanga, Channels Television and the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, and pray that God in his infinite mercy would grant you all the fortitude to bear this painful and irreparable loss,” he stated.

The late Mr. Jerry Usanga was attached to Government House Press Corps, Calabar, from Channels Television, Lagos, since November 2007 as a cameraman and always discharged his duty creditably.
