By Austin Ogwuda
ASABA—DELTA State Council of Nigerian Union of Pensioners has called on the state Governor, Dr  Emmanuel Uduaghan, to implement the 142 percent increase agreed for pensioners in the state, describing the non implementation as long over due and protracted.

State chairman of the Union, Chief Mathias Ubiebi,  who made the call,  when he led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Governor in Asaba, weekend, also appealed to the Governor to facilitate the prompt payment of the retirement benefits of the nine civil servants, who retired a long time ago.

Responding, Governor Uduaghan promised to accelerate the implementation of the 142 percent pension in the state, saying that the state government had already set machinery in motion to implement the package.

Emphasizing that pensioners deserve better treatment because of their meritorious service to the state, the Governor said all their requests would be attended to without delay.

According to him, “I have interest in your affairs and I promise to continue to do things that will make you comfortable. You have contributed to the growth of the state and you deserve better treatment.”
