THREE police men were reportedly killed  in Port Harcourt on Thursday evening during an encounter with some robbers.
Though the state Police Public Relations officer, Dr Mrs Rita Innoma Abbey, confirmed the death of one, eye witnesses who saw the corpses of the deceased policemen put the figure at three.
The policemen were reportedly on escort duty when they ran into the robbers who opened fire on them.
In the ensuing gun battle, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Dr Mrs Rita Inoma Abbey, a Corporal, Evidence Elue, sustained gun shot injuries and later gave up the ghost at a trauma centre in Port Harcourt where he was rushed.
He said eyewitnesses said they saw three corpses of police men in a police patrol van at the end of the fierce shooting.
The robbers reportedly disappeared with N3 million and one AK 47 riffle.
“It was not bank robbery per se. Policemen were on special escort for Seven-Up to escort its sales’ money. An insider sold the information to four armed men, who attacked the lead and back-up vehicles of policemen,†the Police PRO said.
