Six expatriates kidnapped in Rivers

Port Harcourt – THREE Syrians and one Lebanese were kidnapped yesterday at Umuatoru- Etche road bridge area. The kidnappers were reportedly dressed in military uniforms.

Contacted for comment on the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Dr Mrs. Rita Innoma Abbey, confirmed the development and said she would get back with details as she was driving.

A colleague of the hostages said the kidnappers numbering over ten shot sporadically in the area before they fled with the expatriates and a mobile policeman allegedly lost his life during the shooting.

Meanwhile, in a text message to Saturday Vanguard, the state Police PRO, confirmed the abduction of another set of hostages, Chadi Hossand, a Syrian and Ghassan Germany, a Lebanese.

Meanwhile, two suspected robbers have been gunned down by the Police in the state capital.
The Police PRO, Dr Mrs Abbey in an earlier chat with Saturday Vanguard on the development said the four man robbery gang dispossessed their victims of ten million naira. Acting on distress call, she said the police encountered the fleeing robbers at Mile four area.

During the exchange of fire two of the robbers reportedly lost their lives while the other two fled probably with gun shot injuries

The police spokesperson said AK47 rifles and magazines were recovered from the scene of the battle.
