Family protests death of London-based man

OWERRI—Angry reactions have continued to trail the murder of a 38-year-old, London-based Nigerian citizen, Mr. Eva Duru, in a hotel at Anara, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

Addressing newsmen  in his Umuduruzo, Amaigbo, Nwangele Local Government Area of the state’ country home, the deceased’s elder brother, Rev. Fr. Boniface Duru, called on the security agencies to fish out his brother’s killers.

“My younger brother was murdered January 19, 2010, by unknown persons at Anara. He has not been home for the past two years but when he came this time, he decided to sleep in the hotel for fear of kidnappers and robbers,” he recounted with grief.

Saying that his brother has been abroad for about 12 years, the Catholic cleric, however, said that the family was not pointing accusing finger on anybody.

“As a priest, I have taken the matter to God. Why would anybody want to kill the young man? With this type of reckless killing, no foreign investor would want to visit Nigeria or invest in an insecure environment,” Fr. Duru said.

Speaking also, the President of Italy based Opera Don Bonafacio Azione Verde, Mr. Domenico Agatiello, explained that he led a six-member team of the organisation to condole with the Duru family.
