Rep denies alleged bloody clash

By Peter Duru

MAKURDI — A lawmaker representing Ukum/Katsina-Ala/Logo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Mr Mzenda Iho, has denied an alleged bloody clash between his supporters and that of his rival which purportedly claimed the lives of a Police officer and two others.

Iho said the report which was published in a national newspaper (not Vanguard) had alleged that the violence erupted last weekend at Yooyo in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State over the 2011 House of Representatives election in the area.

According to him, the purported report was a fabrication that was intended to create disaffection in his constituency and its attendant consequences.

In a statement signed on behalf of the House of Representatives member by his personal assistant, Edward Tyopev, the lawmaker decried the calculated attempt by few ill-informed persons to smear his personality and the image he had built over time.

Reacting to the alleged violence, Benue State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed also debunked the alleged skirmishes and loss of lives in Katsina/Ala.
