Pray for Nigeria, says Rev

By Olayinka Latona
A cleric,   Rev. Dr. E. Kayode Opadeji, of First Baptist Church, Ikeja, Lagos has asked Nigerians and  the church of God to pray for the country especially for the forth coming elections.

Rev Opadeji made the call recently during a press briefing towards the launching of N470 million fund for the church ultra modern church and pastorium building.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, is expected to be the chief guest of honour at the event scheduled for today.

The man of God said Nigeria would have been a forgotten country by now, but due to the unrelenting prayer from various quarters.

According to him, “we thank God for committed children of God that have been praying for this nation. They should not relent in doing so, as you all know that prayer is by revelation and not by broadcasting as taught by the Lord Jesus Christ. So it is our responsibility as a nation to pray for the nation and the leaders in power.”

On the allegations that church leaders have been collaborating with politicians to drain the nation’s economy, Rev Opadeji said it was the duty of the church to instruct the political leaders in all capacity and gives God’s directives to them even when they are not righteous.

His words: “Although the church are not encouraging them to loot the nation’s treasury, but the church should accept them when they come to repentance and realise themselves as sinners.

“It is not the will of God for any man of God or Christian to dupe or extort money from any political leader. But the church will surely accept any leader that comes to the state of repentance, because God is delighted when a sinner repents from his or her ways.”
