LAGOS — JUSTICE Morenike Obadina of an Ikeja High Court, has sentenced a herbalist, Femi Bamidele, to five years imprisonment for defrauding one  Emeka Marcus of  N968,000 under the pretence of spiritual healing.

Apart from the jail term handed down on the convict, the court ordered a restitution of the money defrauded the victim under false pretense upon his release from prison.

Justice  Obadina in her judgment on the case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, found the defendant guilty on all the four-count filed against him.

Justice Obadina in her judgment, held: “I have listened to the plea of defendant counsel. I watched the demeanor of the defendant throughout the trial and I can say that he indeed appears to be a changed man. Crime does not pay and nemesis, one way or the orther, has a way of catching up with criminals.

“I, therefore, sentence the defendant to five years imprisonment for count one to four. The sentence is to run concurrently and to take effect from December 6, 2006 when the defendant was first arrested and been in custody.

“I order him to pay back PW1 (Emeka Marcus) the sum of N968,000 subject of this charge as restitution upon his release from custody,” the court held.
