Egbema king makers back Thikan

By Emma Arubi
WARRI—AS the tussle over the authentic royal father of Egbema Kingdom in Delta State gathers momentum, the king makers and custodians of the Agadagba stool and Egbesu diety in Ajakurama town, Thursday, stated that their chosen and ordained monarch remains HRH Isaac A. Thikan, Bini Pere 111, the Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom.

They also maintained that past and present Agadagba has always ruled the people from the traditional seat of the kingdom in Ajakurama and not from any foreign land, saying that Thikan was duly screened amongst all contestants to the throne at the demise of the immediate past ruler in 1983.

Addressing newsmen at Ajakurama town, High Chiefs Daniel Nisoh Beke and J.E.B. Eferusuoa, the Tori-puwei of Egbema kingdom, they stated that by their tradition only a person whose mother is not from Egbema kingdom can ever become the traditional ruler, adding that the mother of one “Gold O.E. Tiemo who now parades himself as the Agadagba is from Ogbududgbudu community which is an independent ruling house in Egbema kingdom, effectively disqualifying him.”

According to a statement made available to newsmen and signed by both High Chiefs including Chiefs Layema Kuruma and Jerusalem Yoboto respectively.

The Egbema people cannot install HRH Isaac Thikan after performing all traditional rites relating to the stool, including the Egbema annual cultural festival and then have another king ruling from outside the kingdom, saying “there cannot be traditional installation of two persons as Agadagba of Egbema kingdom”.

“Gold O.E. Tiemo should stop parading himself as Agadagba of Egbema kingdom while resident in Warri. If he believes in his contention, let him come home and live with the Egbema Ijaw people at Ajakurama, the traditional seat of the Agadagba of Egbema kingdom”, the statement added.

While appealing to the said Gold O. Tiemo to allow peace to reign by following the due process of the law as all the cases pertaining to the kingship matter are currently in the law court, the king makers restated their determination to resist any evil design by any group from any quarters henceforth.
