Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has concluded plans to send to the United States of American for further studies at least one hundred indigent students drawn from its mandate areas.

Executive Chairman of the commission, Mr. Wellington Okirika, who disclosed this while presenting the students to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in Asaba, weekend, said the selected students would train at Maryland University Eastern Shore.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Chief Okirika said:  “The successful selection of these students is a dream come true for the DESOPADEC as it will go a long way in actualizing our desire to improve on the educational standard of children drawn from our mandate areas.

“If we succeed in this all important venture, we would have succeeded in helping to reshape the destiny of many of our young ones through the provision of qualitative and sound educational knowledge which remains  the bedrock of any serious-minded society.”

Okirika, was accompanied on the visit by the Secretary of the Commission, Chief Andi Kayoma Osawota and seven out of  eight commissioners representing the five ethnic nationalities of Ijaw, Urhobo, Itsekiri, Isoko and Ndokwa.
