Road accidents kill 2 in Edo

BENIN — No fewer than two persons died and several others seriously injured in three separate road accidents which occurred Monday night in Benin City, Edo State capital.

Vanguard gathered that the first accident involved a commercial bike rider who died when he ran into a Toyota Camry car along Ikpoba Hill on the outskirts of Benin.

An eyewitness disclosed that the bike rider, who was on a motorbike with plate number VS 298 ENU was trying to overtake the Toyota Camry when he lost control and crashed into the car smashing the wind-screen in the process.

The bike rider was said to have died while being taken to the hospital.

The other accident involved a commercial bus with plate number XJ 939 UWN belonging to Peace Mass Transit company which was involved in a lone accident.

Edo State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Olatunji Henry, who confirmed both accidents, attributed their causes to over-speeding and loss of control.

Olatunji confirmed that one person, a male, died on the spot, while other passengers were seriously injured.

He said the dead had been deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) mortuary, while the injured were admitted at the same hospital.

Also, in another development, a  commercial bus with registration number XB 317 FKJ belonging to Abia City Transport Company was involved in a lone crash at Ugomoson village, along Benin-Agbor road.

No lives were lost in the accident, but FRSC said all the passengers were seriously injured and taken to Our Clinic hospital.
