BENIN — A UNITED STATES-based Nigerian medical practitioner, Dr. Kenneth Oyarebu, was weekend kidnapped in South-Ibie in Estasko-West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The kidnap of Dr. Oyarebu is coming on the heels of the kidnap of Ekpoma branch chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Nath Inegbedion, along with his three children, later rescued by men of the State Security Service (SSS) in the state who acted on a tip-off.
Vanguard gathered from a very competent source that Dr. Oyarebu, who was on a visit to Nigeria at the time of abduction, was forcibly taken away by his abductors between Iyirekhu and Ughuedu, both villages in South- Ibie clan in the local government.
As at press time, the abductors of the United States-based medical doctor had not made contact with his family, just as his whereabout remains unk-nown.
Contacted for comments on the incident, Edo State Police image maker, Mr. Peter Ogboi (ASP), said he was yet to be briefed on the situation by the Area Commander in charge of Auchi Area Command.
In a related development, an attempt by vulcanizer in Auchi to kidnap his apprentice was foiled by the apprentice who jumped out of the vehicle when he noticed that he was being taken to an unknown destination by his master.
Sources in Auchi told Vanguard that the master had told his apprentice that they were going to the Catholic Mission Road to do some vulcanizing work, but he later took him to the old Texile Mill Road on the outskirts of the town.
The apprentice was said to have been rescued by some farmers who later took him to the palace of the Otaru of Auchi who is now investigating the matter.
